I don’t know about you but when the cold weather starts creeping in , all I want to do is EAT!!!!
It’s very common to feel hungrier at this time of year , at the moment all I do is think about FOOD!
There is a reason for this though. The colder weather leads to a drop in our body temperature, which means our appetites get stimulated as a result. So it seems eating helps ‘warm us up!’
During winter, the body works harder and spends more energy just trying to keep you warm, so it feels like you are always hungry and wanting to eat. This is no excuse to overeat though!
Some tips to keep warm, are to wear extra layers of clothing and increase your EXERCISE.
But how do we deal with the cravings? Make sure you eat regularly and include lots of protein and fibre in your meals, that way you will feel more satisfied and crave less sugary snacks.
Trust me I spent the last 2 weeks, overindulging and I noticed the weight creep back on so fast, plus I feel so blahhhhh. Who can relate?
I discovered also that Porridge is a great choice for a warming breakfast, when I have had this in the morning before I head out to work it has kept me full almost all day plus it is delicious, nutritious and satisfying.
Lunch ideas could include a warming bowl of soup with plenty of seasonal vegetables, with some lentils, beans or chicken for protein. YUM!! I love soup so much !
For dinner, a hearty stew done in the slow cooker with lean meat & vegetables, served with some brown rice or Soy Bean spaghetti or Pulse Pasta would be a great choice. Because all these meals are filling, it should be easier to control your portion sizes too.
The benefits of following these tips mean you can stay healthy, feel great and have a better chance of avoiding unwanted winter weight gain, I am definitely going to give it my best shot this winter…. Who is with me?
