Travel with the kids

This is a repost of a blog i wrote on my old site a  few years back

When friends are intending to travel to Singapore, Ive been asked, “which are the best restaurants to go to?” “where to shop?” “where is a nice place to stay?” “where is good to take the kids?”, I often wish I would have a standard email to keep resending… then i thought “aaah my blog!”
However, since there is so much information to share, I will have to break this up into parts, lets start with where to stay….
When my husband and I travel to Singapore, which we have done since our girls were born…(almost 9 years now), every time we revisit, something new is being built, its a city that’s always improving.
One thing Ive noticed about Singapore is that it never turns its back on nature, its so lush and green, its part of the beauty and attraction that keeps us coming back. Needless to say the people are warm and friendly too. You always feel welcome and safe!

Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa

We couldn’t go past our favourite hotel of which we inhabit sometimes 3-4 times a year. The Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa.

Its situated on Sentosa Island, but don’t let that alarm you, there is plenty to do on this island…(more on that later) and don’t stress, shopping is a mere 10 Minutes away by taxi.

The hotel is fabulous for adults but its great for children as well… it has a fun kids club (open from 930am to 9pm) with a massive tree house slide. There is also a kids pool (with shading) with 3 water slides, this keeps the kids entertained for HOURS!

For adults, there is a nice pool and pool bar as one needs to keep well hydrated on holiday…

Cocktail Time

One of the best restaurants in Singapore is located here at the resort. We never tire from eating at “Barnicles” with food available such as their signature dish “yin yang” with deep fried mayonnaise prawns and crispy baby squid mmmm…..Excuse the picture below i always order my portion to come out with extra prawns and no squid…Greedy!!

Wasabi Prawns

Barnicles also do a fabulous brunch on a Sunday, where you can sip on Moet while the kids are entertained for free by clowns and a magic show…We all know that when the kids are happy, the parents are happy! I can hear your sighs of relaxation already… If you happen to go to Barnicles, ask for Samson, he is the executive Chef, tell him i sent you!

You are also spoilt by the buffet at Rasa, its not like just any buffet, the quality and choice is amazing! Not only do they cater to Indian, Asian and Italian cuisine, but they also have a kids size buffet with a chocolate flowing fountain, I may or may not have been seen here filling a bowl with melted chocolate

Fun Fact: The occasional  peacock walks around which for me adds to the beauty and lets you really know that you are somewhere exotic. Keep an eye out for the monkeys though, they are very cheeky.

Rasa has its own resident band called “The Bluebirds” they sing from Tuesday to Sunday night, starting at the pool bar during happy hour, then move around the resort until they finish the night up at Barnicles. Request a song, chances are they will know it ! They give the resort that real ‘island feel’ and lift the mood everywhere they go…
Well I could keep writing about this place , Ive only covered half of it, but I’m sure you get the general idea, I hope you get to visit Rasa one day…who knows I might see you by the pool!
