Colours of Love – Deepavali 2014

Festival of Lights ISWA 2014 Dipavali Festival Perth
ISWA 2014 Dipavali Festival Perth

In the Gregorian calendar, Diwali night falls between mid-October and mid-November. The Indian Association of Western Australia presented a spectacular day of colour, love and life shared with the Western Australian Community. Couch Lifestyle was privileged to get a glimpse of the efforts put into such a colourful event with behind the scenes access.

For those who don’t know, Diwali or Divali also known as Deepavali and the “festival of lights”, is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year. This week long celebration spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.

The festival preparations and rituals typically extend over a five day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. I’d like to share with you the highlights of the Deepavali Festival of Lights, brought to you by The Indian Association of Western Australia.
