Tonight I will be attending the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. I’m so excited to be attending on the one hand, it’s a night my friend Tony Barlow and I have always enjoyed together. On the other hand it is going to be a night of sadness, and reflection on the absence of my beautiful friend Ruth Tarvydas.
I know WA is rich in creativity and wonderful talent. I know the TPFF will still be amazing, but I will still feel a void. I won’t see Ruth with her entourage of beautiful models and bejewelled gowns. I’m sure the catwalks won’t be the same.
Such a vision she had, such a way with her models… Always a pep talk before the show, filling the girls with positive thoughts and telling them how beautiful they were. It was always fun modelling for Ruth. She didn’t follow the rules she made her own and they were always practical yet innovative.
I’m so happy that I knew her, that my life was enriched just by knowing her. You can learn so much by the people around you and how they treat others. I’m so proud of her and all that she achieved. Proud that she always called WA her home, that she empowered others, that she was a mentor for those wanting to learn the industry. I am grateful I got the chance to be her model for many many years.
So tonight I will reflect with happiness on fond memories of a Western Australian Fashion Icon !
